The agentic supply grab
Amazon's two moves this week are the same move seen from two angles. The Digiday story has Amazon routing ChatGPT inventory through its near-zero-fee DSP, the latest in an 18-month streak that has swept in Netflix, Roku and Disney. The Tipsheet piece has Amazon assembling the connective tissue - Ads Agent, MCP connectivity, Bedrock AgentCore - that lets buyer agents talk to seller agents, with Warner Bros. Discovery already building on it. Together they describe a company converting first-party data and near-zero fees into default infrastructure for buying premium and conversational supply, at the exact moment the FTC is suing it over auction opacity.
Where the money is going
The IAB's upward revision to 12.3% growth hides a sharper shift: Madison & Wall pegs AI campaign types at 12% of U.S. spend, up from 2% two years ago, heading to 27% by 2030. Those dollars route through Performance Max and Advantage+ - black boxes that Jellyfish's John Dawson expects to swallow 90% of media. The channel mix confirms the direction: social, CTV and commerce media up double digits, non-CTV digital video and DOOH shrinking. The open web is watching its addressable budget move into walled gardens, and the FAST story is the counter-warning: even a channel with proven 43%-plus audience growth cannot monetize while the platforms sit on the data.
Transparency is the battleground
Every story this week is, underneath, about who controls verification and who gets paid because of it. FAST operators are being discounted because buyers cannot confirm delivery. Prebid's new president is betting the open web's survival on open-source auction transparency, and is keeping the door open to Google AdX. Press Gazette is turning "human-made" verification into a trust badge for advertisers. The publishers who win the next cycle will be the ones who can prove what they sold, to a machine and to a buyer.
What this means for publishers
The 2% to 12% to 27% AI-share line is the single most important number I'd put in front of any publisher this week: budgets are consolidating into PMax and Advantage+ black boxes, and the only durable counter is verifiable, curated, first-party-data inventory the automated buyers cannot simply ignore.
Amazon's near-zero-fee DSP now touching ChatGPT means premium conversational inventory is transacting programmatically at a take rate that undercuts The Trade Desk and Google. Publishers should re-examine their own SSP and DSP fee economics - and any Amazon relationship - because the fee benchmark in the market just moved.
On FAST, push device-level verification now. CPMs falling from $30 toward single digits is a transparency failure, not a demand failure, and the first operator to open device-level data to a third-party verifier resets the category floor.
The agentic sell-side is a near-term build, not a concept. WBD's seller agents on Bedrock AgentCore are a template; publishers who do not expose machine-readable, agent-accessible inventory through curation feeds and shared IDs will be invisible to the next buying layer.
"Human-made" is becoming a monetizable signal. Press Gazette's survey - 87% say a human-made guarantee lifts reader trust, and 95% want AI content flagged - suggests a trust badge is worth more than a compliance checkbox when selling to advertisers.
On the Radar

FTC v. Amazon ad-auction case: the first substantive buyer pushback would signal the transparency argument is landing.
