GB News narrows losses as TV ad revenue offsets a 63% traffic collapse
Press Gazette · 30 Sep 2026, 17:37 CEST · Score: 9
GB News grew revenue 16% to £17.4m in the seven months to 31 December 2025 and narrowed its EBITDA loss 26% to £8.9m, even as website and app visitors fell 63% to 7.5 million, a decline it attributes directly to AI in search. The mix is the story: 68% of revenue now comes from TV advertising, up from a digital share that has fallen from 29% to 21%. Total minutes spent by those who did visit rose 51% year on year, and membership revenue of £1.1m in seven months nearly matched the prior full year's £1.15m. A GB News spokesperson said "our revenue is rising, our costs are falling and we are on track towards delivering sustainable profitability." Cumulative losses since 2021 still stand at £142m, underwritten by owners Sir Paul Marshall and Legatum Ventures.
The crux
A UK newsbrand is demonstrating that a linear-TV-led revenue base can absorb the full force of AI-driven search referral collapse, at the cost of remaining dependent on deep-pocketed owners and a political-audience niche.
Sell-side read
The lesson for publishers is not "TV beats digital" but that revenue diversity is what let GB News absorb a 63% audience fall; ad-reliant publishers without a linear or membership floor are the ones the search collapse actually kills.
Watch
Whether GB News reaches EBITDA breakeven on its new calendar year, and whether its membership tier scales past the current £1.1m run rate.
