Meta's Muse and the agentic interface shift

Muse's explosive launch, 730,000 U.S. downloads in five days, collided with Amazon blocking it from shopping its store, forcing the industry to confront what advertising looks like when a personal agent acts on a person's behalf instead of showing them a page.

The crux

The $243 billion attention business Meta built on human eyeballs is being renegotiated into a transaction toll and a slot inside the data an agent reads, and no publisher can opt out the way Amazon tried to.

Sell-side read

Publishers should treat agent-readable content as a product now; Time already sells ads inside markdown files built for bots to read, and The Guardian is engineering "entitlements to Guardian experiences within other products."

Watch

Meta's next move on monetisation, Meta Connect is this week, and whether Zuckerberg's merchant-paid "toll on transactions" model holds once Muse is big enough to make an ads business worth building.
