Index Exchange: every DSP will containerize

Index Exchange CEO Andrew Casale argues programmatic is entering an architectural shift toward containerization, running DSPs and bidders inside Index Cloud, local to where impressions originate, and predicts "every DSP will containerize" within five years. Index now processes more than 800 billion requests a day, and Casale says containerization removes roughly 80% of the cost of compute. He frames the prize bluntly: a big ad tech firm's cloud bill "rivals employees" as a top cost, so the $100 million spent on the public cloud could become working media instead. Crucially, he argues DSPs trade off nothing: the container is "encrypted and secure, so we don't know what's inside it," so they keep their secret sauce and IP while cutting compute.

The crux

Sell-side infrastructure is trying to reclaim the economics and performance the public cloud gave away, positioning the exchange as the neutral layer where marketer-owned models and containerized DSPs run.

Sell-side read

If containerization plus sell-side decisioning take hold, publishers gain a more efficient, higher-yield programmatic market and more transparency into what was previously a DSP black box. The "neutral exchange" pitch is a direct shot at SSP and DSP convergence.

Watch

Casale's claim that large DSP integrations will be announced early next year, and early Bedrock A/B results showing "stark" performance gains.
