Scope3 becomes Apostra, doubling down on agentic ad buying

Scope3, the carbon-measurement startup launched in 2022, is rebranding to Apostra and making agentic advertising its primary business. CEO Brian O'Kelley told Adweek the platform is already handling roughly $1.2 million in media buys across several markets and expects agentic revenue to overtake sustainability revenue within a year. Apostra is the commercial platform built on Ad Context Protocol (AdCP), the open standard Scope3 helped create (launched October 2025) that lets buying and selling agents communicate. Per Business Insider, it positions as a neutral gateway: rather than take transaction fees or a cut of media spend, it sells add-on "intelligence capabilities" such as campaign-proposal evaluation, negotiation support, catalog integration and currency handling.
The crux
Apostra's bet is that the money in agentic advertising is not in the transaction but in the intelligence layer around it, and its neutrality is the whole product - a position that stands or falls on whether buyers trust a gateway that takes no fee over the walled-garden agents already in market.
Sell-side read
For publishers this is a concrete, standards-based route to expose inventory to buying agents without building a bespoke API per partner, and a hedge against a single platform owning the agent layer; the open question is whether volume actually flows through a no-fee gateway.
Watch
Whether agentic revenue genuinely overtakes Apostra's sustainability line within the stated year, and whether AdCP adoption spreads beyond its founding consortium.
