Sam's Club sells predictive audiences that "confidently assert future buyers"

Sam's Club Connect, the membership retailer's ad business, has launched a suite of forward-looking targeting products built on its longitudinal member data. Predictive Precision Targeting segments households that have never bought the advertised product; Procter & Gamble tested it on Cascade Platinum detergent, where Sam's Club pre-identified roughly 800,000 households with a propensity to upgrade, hit a 94% accuracy rate, and drove 71% more spend on Cascade Platinum Plus than a typical campaign. VP and general manager Harvey Ma framed the advantage as the membership model's longitudinal data: even cash purchases are tied to a household account, so shopping behaviour compounds over time. The suite adds churn-prevention and waning-loyalty segments, plus an expansion of the AI-backed Omni-Impact measurement tool into in-store retail and Meta campaigns.
The crux
Retail media is moving from retargeting past purchases to predicting future ones, and a membership retailer with household-level purchase history is converting that data into pre-emptive audience products that legacy programmatic cannot match.
Sell-side read
Retail media networks are now selling prediction, not reach, and publishers with commerce or first-party transaction data need to answer with their own forward-looking audience products or watch budget migrate to the retailers.
Watch
Whether predictive targeting spreads beyond P&G's Cascade test into broader CPG adoption, and whether a publisher retail-media network counters with equivalent propensity products.
