Press Gazette · 21 Oct 2026, 18:50 CEST · Score: 10

The AI licensing versus litigation split keeps widening on both tracks at once: Reach and CNN are the latest publishers to sign AI deals with Google, while USA Today Co is the latest to sue OpenAI for allegedly copying its content without payment. The running tally also logs News Corp suing the browser Brave, CNN suing Perplexity, more than 30 US local newspaper companies owning a combined 400 titles suing OpenAI and Microsoft, and a judge allowing most of Reddit's suit against Anthropic to proceed over more than 100,000 accesses. OpenAI's India deals run about $5m and $3m a year, and News Corp's Meta deal up to $50m a year. Seen in: Press Gazette (Charlotte Tobitt).
