The Independent Marks 40 Years with a Membership and Events Push

The Independent has turned 40 with a programme built around memberships and live events rather than traffic: a Members-only "Inside The Independent" series, a first film season at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, an exclusive GBP1 six-month All Access membership tier, and a returned partnership with the Henley Literary Festival. Editor in chief Geordie Greig said the title had "a staggering 13 billion views across all our platforms last year", and chief executive Christian Broughton framed the pitch around trust: "They know that knowledge is power, but only if you can be sure you are not a target for manipulation."
